Eligibility for the ARIA Awards is defined by ARIA to be:

  1. Entry
    Only ARIA members are able to enter recordings for judging.
    1. ARIA members may enter any artist who meets the eligibility criteria set out below.
    2. An ARIA member can only enter its own artists and cannot enter the artists of another record label.
    3. ARIA LEVY and LEVY II MEMBERS may enter up to eight (8) artists in each category.
    4. MEMBERS may enter up to six (6) artists in each category.
  2. Recordings
    1. Release is defined as the date the recording was officially commercially available through retail channels. Recordings must be physically released and recordings released only through digital channels are not eligible, except in the category of Best Video – refer to category definition.
    2. Eligible recordings must have been released during the period Sunday, 6 August 2006 to Friday, 3 August 2007 inclusive, excluding entries in the Highest Selling Album and Highest Selling Single categories, where the eligible release and sales audit period is Sunday, 6 August 2006 to Tuesday, 31 July 2007 inclusive.
    3. A recording may be entered in more than one non-genre category, but may not be entered in more than one genre category. Category definitions indicate those that are genre categories.
    4. Unless otherwise specified, multi-artist compilations are not eligible.
    5. Recordings must be sold through retail channels, or be otherwise commercially released to be eligible, except in the category of Best Independent Release where product may be sold via mail order and/or alternative retail channels.
    6. Re-released recordings are not eligible.
    7. New recordings, including new live recordings, of previously released material are eligible
    8. All recording artists credited on the release must meet the artist eligibility criteria (see below: 3. Artists) except in the case of Best Classical Album - refer to category definition.
    9. Where the entered release comprises more than one disc, the discs must be sold as ‘one set' to qualify.
  3. Artists
    All entered Artists must be:
    1. Australian Citizens (by birth or citizenship), OR
    2. Persons with eligible product who have gained or applied for permanent residency in Australia and who have resided in Australia for six months during the eligibility period, AND
    3. In the case of groups, a minimum of 50% of the group must qualify under 2(a) and/or 2(b) above.
    4. Artists are the recipients of all awards except in the case of awards for Engineer of the Year, Producer of the Year, Best Cover Art and Best Video.
  4. Ineligibility
    All entries will be reviewed for eligibility by the Eligibility Sub-Committee of the ARIA Awards Committee, who reserves the right to make the final judgement on category, artist and product eligibility. The Eligibility Sub-Committee will provide notice citing reasons for any entries deemed ineligible. The entrant will have two (2) days from such notice to respond, at which time the Eligibility Sub-Committee will review the entry and make a final decision.
