ARIA Awards 2007 : About: Hall of Fame

The Hall of Fame has been an important part of the ARIA Awards since the Award's inception back in 1987. Traditionally taking place during the music awards ceremony, ARIA has inducted artists as diverse as AC/DC, Joan Sutherland, Olivia Newton-John, Johnny O'Keefe, Paul Kelly, INXS, Slim Dusty, Jimmy Little, and many more into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Inductees are selected by the ARIA Board.

While ARIA retains a component of the Hall of Fame for the ARIA Awards (another artist will be inducted at this year's event in October), the ARIA Hall of Fame is now an annual stand-alone event that honours performers, producers and songwriters whose musical achievements have had a significant impact in Australia or around the world.

The 2007 ARIA Hall of Fame was held on Wednesday, July 18 at Melbourne's picturesque Plaza Ballroom. This year's ceremony honoured Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons, Hoodoo Gurus, Frank Ifield, Radio Birdman, Brian Cadd and Marcia Hines with inductions into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

The 2007 ARIA Hall of Fame was proudly broadcast on VH1 on Sunday, 22 July at 7.30pm.

Melbourne's intimate Plaza Ballroom is a heritage-listed theatre featuring intricate Spanish Rococo architecture located in the heart of Melbourne underneath the Regent Theatre at 191 Collins Street.

Induction Criteria

The guidelines set out below were the principle parameters for induction when the ARIA Awards first started in 1987. The guidelines have not changed since.

1. The Hall of Fame recognises four categories of music - pop/rock, jazz, classical and country;
2. The nominees' careers must have commenced, and ideally achieved significant prominence, at least 20 years prior to the year of proposed induction;
3. Membership into the Hall of Fame is reserved exclusively for the creators of recorded music - the writers, the recording artists, and in some cases, the producers;
4. The nominees must be responsible for a significant body of recorded work;
5. The nominees work must have had a cultural impact within Australia and/or recognition within the world marketplace.
