In May each year the ARIA Awards Key Issues Committee (comprised of representatives from ARIA member record companies) gets together to review the judging academy. As part of that process each committee member may submit the names of people they believe should be added to the panel. Assuming there are no objections by other committee members, that judge is then invited to join the panel.
There are currently 930 confirmed judges in the judging academy. The specialist Judging Schools comprise up to 100 voters, each of whom has expertise in that particular genre.
The 2008 judging academy is made up of the following voters.

The committee also reviews existing judges to ensure the panel is current and comprehensive in accordance with the following policy:
• Current ARIA member companies are entitled to one vote each, except Levy and Levy II members who are entitled to eight votes per company plus one additional voter who may vote only in Urban and/or Dance categories.
• Winners and nominees from the previous year's ARIA Awards are the only artists eligible to vote.
• Each artist, whether a group or solo musician, is entitled to one vote only to ensure balance. They may vote for themselves.
• Artists are eligible to vote in all non-voting school award categories. Artists who were winners/nominees in a voting school award are also entitled to vote in that category.
• Artisan Award (Producer, Engineer, Cover Art and Video) winners and nominees are retained on the panel whilst they continue to work in the music industry in their specialist area. The exception to this is artists, who may only vote in the year after their nomination.
• Judges who actively decline their invitation to vote in any given year are not removed from the panel unless they request permanent removal.
• Judges who don’t respond to their invitation to vote in their first year on the panel are removed from the panel but may be readmitted on request.
• Judges who don't vote three years in a row are removed from the panel but may be readmitted on request.
• Judges whose emails are 'undeliverable' are removed from the list if the Key Issues committee is unable to locate current details for that judge.
