This August, of course, is a month dominated by the thrills and drama of the Beijing Olympics, but that’s not to say the Australian music biz doesn’t throw up a few thrills and spills of its own.
Released too late for inclusion in this year’s ARIA Awards, but certainly already in the front-running for the 2009 ARIAs, Sydney dance outfit Sneaky Sound System rampage this month’s Motorola ARIA album charts with their sophomore long-player, appropriately and simply entitled ‘2’. After their self-titled debut spent over a year in the Top 50, ‘2’ not surprisingly debuts at No. 1 [ending an unexpected five-week lock-out of the top spot by the Mamma Mia soundtrack]. In doing so, the Sneakys’s ‘2’ becomes the sixth Australian album chart-topper of 2008 so far.
